Meditation for processing anger at a loved one

When the anger is toward someone important, writing what you feel with no intention of sending it lets you say what you actually think, without the self-censorship of speaking to that person directly.

Sample session

Grab paper or a note on your phone that you’re not going to send to anyone. Over the next few minutes, write everything you feel toward this person right now, without editing it or softening it to sound more reasonable. Include what happened, what hurt, and what you’d like to say to them if there were no consequences — precisely because this text isn’t going to them. This doesn’t replace the real conversation you may need to have, but it lets you arrive at it without the pressure of processing the anger and communicating with the person at the same time. When you’re done, you decide whether to keep it, tear it up, or delete it — there’s no correct way to close it out.
