Meditation for learning to say no without guilt

The guilt that shows up when saying no is often mistaken for a sign that something’s wrong, when it’s frequently just the discomfort of breaking an old pattern of people-pleasing.

Sample session

Think of a recent request you said yes to while actually wanting to say no. Write down what made you say yes anyway — fear of disappointing someone, of being liked less, of seeming selfish? Now write the actual sentence you wish you’d said instead, something simple and direct, without needing to justify it with a long explanation. Practicing the sentence in writing, before you actually need it, makes it easier to say next time. Saying no to something isn’t saying you don’t care about the other person — it’s recognizing that your own time and energy have a real limit too.
