Meditation for impostor syndrome at work

When the feeling that “any moment now they’ll find out I don’t belong here” becomes constant, writing down concrete, verifiable evidence of competence counters that voice better than trying to talk yourself into generic affirmations.

Sample session

Grab paper or a note and write, as concretely as possible, three things you’ve done well at work in the last few weeks — not vague qualities like “I’m hardworking”, but facts: a specific problem you solved, a decision you made that worked out, something someone thanked you for. For each one, also note what you specifically did to make it happen, not what others did. The impostor feeling isn’t based on the facts — it’s based on systematically discounting your own merit. This exercise doesn’t erase that voice all at once, but it gives it a list of verifiable facts to argue with.
