Meditation for build self-esteem

Deliberately directing phrases of goodwill toward yourself, even if it feels awkward at first, is one of the best-supported practices for cultivating a kinder relationship with yourself.

Sample session

Sit comfortably and bring these phrases to mind, slowly, one at a time: “may I be safe, may I be at peace, may I be kind to myself, may I live with ease.” Repeat them directed at yourself, even if at first they sound strange or bring up resistance — that’s normal, especially if you’ve been your own harshest critic for a while. Don’t look for an intense feeling right away; this practice builds its effect through repetition, not in a single session. If directing the phrases at yourself feels too hard at any point, you can start by directing them toward someone you love, and return to yourself later, once it feels a bit more natural. Finish by noticing, without forcing anything, whether there’s any small shift in how you feel about yourself right now.
