Meditation for overcoming creative block

Staying seated in front of the creative problem usually feeds the block further; moving the body with attention, without directly chasing the solution, lets the mind work in the background in a way that forcing it can’t.

Sample session

Get up and start walking, indoors or outside, at an unhurried pace. Instead of continuing to turn the creative problem over directly, direct your attention to the sensations of walking: the foot touching the ground, the rhythm of the steps, the air on your skin. Set the creative problem aside completely during this time, rather than trying to solve it while you walk. Paradoxically, deliberately moving attention away from the problem — not distracting yourself with your phone, but occupying the mind with something else concrete — is often what allows an idea to show up afterward, once you’ve stopped chasing it directly.
