Meditation for irritability from lack of sleep
After a bad night’s sleep, the body reacts more intensely to things that normally wouldn’t bother it as much; recognizing that specific cause, instead of looking for it in whatever’s happening right now, prevents disproportionate reactions you’d later regret.
Sample session
If you notice you’re more irritable than usual, before reacting to whatever’s bothering you, honestly check whether you slept badly last night — irritability often has more to do with that than with whatever’s in front of you right now. Sit for a moment and tense your shoulders firmly for a few seconds, clench your fists too, then release everything at once. Do the same with your jaw: clench it briefly, then let go. A tired body builds up tension in these areas without you noticing, and that physical tension feeds irritability just as much as mental fatigue does. You don’t have to resolve whatever’s bothering you today from a state of exhaustion — if it can wait until you’ve slept, let it wait.
